Due to the increase in hacking cases, the leading blogging platform, Tumblr is getting on the two-factor authentication bandwagon. This type of security feature has been already adopted by many top social media platforms like Twitter. Two-factor authentication makes it more difficult for hackers to access users’ Tumblr accounts because it requires more than a password.
As per the new security protocol, after logging into one’s account, the user must also key in a unique code sent either via SMS or through an authenticator app.
To set up two-factor authentication users must:
Visit their account settings.
Click the ‘Enable’ checkbox.
Enter their phone number.
Decide if they want to receive the code via text or through an authenticator app. Both are recommended in case a backup is required. Tumblr recommends Google Authenticator, which can be downloaded for iOS and Android.
Follow the steps laid out in the settings page.
